Yes, for many reasons. Historical records contain information of enduring value that often can be recognized from the moment it is created. Historical records --
- Provide a link to the past and provide the means for the transmission of culture from one generation to another.
- Help inform and educate the public.
- Provide the raw material for historical research.
- Document the legal rights of citizens.
- Document property and land ownership.
- Document decisions on policy matters by government agencies and businesses.
- Provide records of historic sites and document efforts to preserve them.
