Centerville Townsite Archeological Excavation Oral History Project

The BLM, Idaho State Historical Society and Alfred W. Bowers Laboratory of Anthropology from the University of Idaho sponsored an archaeological excavation at the Centerville town site in 1993. They conducted interviews with former residents of the town to supplement the archaeological record. The topics discussed included the Chinese, businesses, town life, and the physical layout of the town.

At its height, Centerville thrived as a mining town with a population of 3,000 people. The town was big enough to house a saloon, various shops, and many other buildings. Now this site is a ghost town .

The following interviews were included in the project:

  • OH 1204           Bedal, Glenn
  • OH 1205           Hall, Rhoda Hallford
  • OH 1208           Koppes, Herman
